Under the Tooth

2024, 16mm Experimental Short Film

As an outdoor family gathering unfolds, so do unsettling decisions in alimentative practices. This film explores the paradox of consumption and care, where the presence of some animals makes others conspicuously absent. Drawing from Carol J. Adams’ concept of the absent referent, Under the Tooth meditates on the quiet erasures within shared rituals—where the act of eating is both deeply familiar and haunted by what, or who, is no longer there.

In addition to hand-processed 16mm sound stock film, 16mm film was stitched into with a sewing machine to reinforce concepts related to the ties that bond us to the things we consume on a daily basis.

In Her Hands

2024, Documentary Photography, Experimental Imaging, Moving Image

Through experimental crop imaging, documentary photography and filmmaking, this project explores how conceptions of gender can influence access and acceptance of roles within agriculture. Ocean Filibuster

2023, Documentary Photography and Video

Promotional backstage video and photo for a Duke Arts performance of Ocean Filibuster. A performance that explores the intimate, critical relationship between humans and the ocean. Set in a future Global Senate, performer Jenn Kidwell embodies two rivals: Mr. Majority– who introduces a bill to end the ocean as we know it–and The Ocean, who arrives in human form to filibuster the bill. Using large-scale projection, music, a locally cast “ocean ensemble” and augmented reality technology, the performance immerses audiences into an epic battle of wits and wills, smarts and sass, facts, and anthropocentric fiction.

Warm Red Tones

2013- 2024, Documentary Photography

Warm Red Tones examines the visual and symbolic nuances of life in the American South, capturing the often-overlooked details embedded in North Carolina’s rural and suburban landscapes. From subtle traces of change to surreal juxtapositions in everyday spaces, the images reveal moments that might otherwise go unnoticed—fragments of a lived environment shaped by history, culture, and personal memory. Framed through my own lens, this work reflects on the layered realities of Southern life, exploring how displacement, nostalgia, and cultural hybridity have influenced my perception of the places I have come to call home.

De los Dos Lados

2022- 2023, Monoprints

De los Dos Lados is a series of printed barn quilts that explore the complexities of bicultural identity. Drawing inspiration from the dynamic interplay of barn quilt patterns admired during trips to Western North Carolina, the series employs abstraction to symbolically represent the tension and convergence of being tied to two different cultural identities. Traditionally, barn quilts serve as visual emblems of a homestead, yet in this work, they become a medium for interrogating the concept of home—examining the fluidity of belonging across national, familial, and social boundaries.

Criaturas is a series of linoleum relief block prints accompanied by a zine, drawing inspiration from folkloric elements of the American South and Latin America. Through imagery and prose, the project engages with euphemisms and mythic figures, exploring how expressions and oral traditions in storytelling shape cultural identity and collective memory. Criaturas examines the interplay between language, symbolism, and the mutation of meaning when tales are passed down from one person to another.

Harbinger

Short Film, 2014

Role: Art Director, Associate Producer

A short film about an adopted ten year old that climbs to the top of an oak tree in hopes of catching his unborn baby brother falling from space. One of the goals with creating this short was to create a very NC-centric story and bring a community together to help tell that story. Harbinger spanned almost 2 years of pre-production, over 20 days of production, and featured 17 unique locations across the state. The film was run by dedicated volunteers and contributors who donated time, resources, and many weekends to complete the film.
